CeSeR Annual Conference: ‘Securing the Self in Strange Places and Times’
Venue
50 George Square, Project Room 1.06 University of Edinburgh 50 George Square Edinburgh EH8 9LJDescription
This year's CeSeR conference theme is ‘Securing the Self in Strange Places and Times.’ The event invites participants to challenge their understanding of the location, nature, and purpose of security. In a time of rising anxieties in world politics, traditional notions of security have changed dramatically. From the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the contested politics of maritime borders, to climate change, space, and myriad other global challenges, fundamental shifts in how political subjects understand security are taking place—what it means, who has or does it, and the nature of threats and risks.
We are happy to welcome Dr. Charlotte Epstein to deliver the keynote address. She will discuss her latest book, The Birth of the State.
This conference will consist of several panel discussions centring on ontological security, securitization, narratives, memory, and terrorism.
The organizers of this event are Dr. Andy Hom and Lauren Rogers.
The conference is open to all scholars and students at the University of Edinburgh and beyond. There is no conference fee but registration is required.
