Description

This workshop is part of an ISA in the World series of similar events being held across the International Studies Association’s (ISA) global membership to support conversations on engagement between academia and policymaking. Facilitated by Julie Kaarbo (Vice President of the International Studies Association and co-Director of the Scottish Council on Global Affairs) and Maggie Dwyer (co-Director of the Centre for Security Research) from the University of Edinburgh, you are welcome to join our day of conversations around benefits and challenges of policy-relevant research.

Professor James Goldgeier (American University) will kick off the workshop with lessons learned from the Bridging the Gap Project, including ‘how not to bridge the gap’ summarised in a recent article in International Affairs. Later sessions will involve practical tips for academic engagement with policy audiences and a roundtable with practitioners and individuals with experience in government policy-making.

The workshop is open to IR scholars from across Scotland, with an aim to build networks and contacts across Scottish universities. It is funded by ISA, SCGA, and CeSeR. Lunch, coffee/tea, and a reception will be provided.

Spaces are limited, please register by 20 December!
